Initial Expectation and Purposes of Theatre â€Å"Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun (1959) probes the racially charged politics of home ownership in post–World War II Southside Chicago† (Matthews). Before going to see this performance, I made a quick research about this play and that research formed an initial view about this performance. I have read about the play in general, a short synopsis a historical and influences upon American society and theatre. Lorraine Hansberry’s â€Å"A raisin in the Sun† is a play that tells the story of a black family in Chicago. The play shows the value of dreams. Every member of the family has a different dream but they struggle with racial discrimination. One main purpose of the play is to stand against racial and face discrimination instead of running away, and escape from reality. II. The Story’s Major, Overarching, Dramatic Action In this performance, I saw Walter Younger whose dream is to be wealthy and wanted to make his dream come true, but he realized that he had to struggle against racism against black people. Ultimately, Walter reject the offer of Mr. Lindner in order to unite the family and even to face racism. III. My Aesthetic Experience Before Bobo came to the house, the family members had given Lena Younger (Mama) gardening tools as gifts. Mama was very surprised by her family’s generosity.
